The second floor is page optimization. Your name, address, and phone number (NAP) should mirror the GMB, and of course, also the 80-plus directories and NAPs, the biggest and the best being Yahoo, Bing, Apple Maps, Google, City Square, Yellow Pages, Manta, Yelp, and so on. These are extremely important, and other websites need to have title tags, H tags, and image tags properly optimized.
There should be interlinking with other sites. There should be a schema, markup, and structured data. There should be geographically rich, relevant keyword-rich content on the site. This is critical. One of the things we have found is that most business owners don’t have these two things and it is damaging their ability to get GMB rankings. If you’re reading this, chances are you want to get your rankings into the maps, and that includes posting, tagging images, and optimizing the listing.
Another piece of the puzzle that is crucial to completing the path to page one is backlinks: off-page optimizations. That’s known as building backlinks to your site, i.e Google News links, guest posts, and traffic. These types of things are essential. As we said in the previous post, this is really like a house, for lack of a better term. We’re building a house that is designed to stand the test of time. This creates longevity for your website.
